Checklist to get the best bridal portraits
Alright, so let's dive right into it! Bridal portraits...what's the why? Bridal portraits presents the opportunity for the bride to don her wedding dress in a stress-free, pressure-free way. These portraits can be taken at any location the bride prefers, although most brides choose a space at the wedding venue. Seven to five months before the wedding is the perfect time to take your bridal portraits. Now, let's get to the details.
Working with Your Photographer
This is usually the bride's first photography experience with her photographer. Most wedding photographers include bridal portraits in their wedding photography package. So the bride can get to know the photographer and vice versa. When the bride is comfortable with her photographer, the bridal portraits, and subsequently, wedding portraits come out better.
Editing Style
Every photographer has his or her own unique editing style. Even if you like light and airy, dramatic and dark, or warm and natural, there are literally thousands of ways a photographer can edit photos. So the experience of taking bridal portraits along with viewing the final portraits will give you an idea of what your wedding portraits will be like. If you have any concerns, discuss them with your photographer. A picture says a thousand words, so send your photography some photos of the style you are looking for.
What to Bring
Of course, you'll need your wedding dress! Other things include your accessories, bouquet, veil, and shoes. Dress as you would for your wedding day.
Dress, Veil, Shoes, and Accessories
Carefully inspect your dress, veil, shoes, and accessories before your bridal portrait session. If there are any snags or loose strings, you'll want to take of that. If you're using used shoes, clean them.
Hair and Makeup
Now this is the perfect opportunity to have your hair stylist and makeup artist test run for your wedding day. You definitely want your hair, makeup, and nails professionally done for your bridal portraits.
Skin and Teeth
I would like to emphasize skin and teeth. Of course basic personal hygiene is expected when taking your bridal portraits, but I will go further. Shave, exfoliate, and deep moisture your skin. Floss, brush, and whiten your teeth. This makes for way better portraits.
Bouquet
As with hair and makeup, ask your florist for a sample bouquet. There may be a fee for this, but it is well worth it. You'll want fresh, romantic style flowers for your bouquet.
The Camera
Try, try, try to practice in front of a full length mirror at home your poses and facial expressions. This will help you feel more confident in front of the camera. Believe it or not, the camera picks up every single detail and I always say the camera can pick up on your emotions. So definitely listen to your favorite music playlist that will help you feel calm, feminine, and confident.
